Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.
How does the exported media product meet the client brief?
The products I have exported meet the client brief that I was given. This is because they both represent the music scene which is developing in Hertfordshire. I have done this by choosing pop music which is the biggest music genre in Hertfordshire. I used pop as the main theme for my magazine because of this. The brief stated that an online and print based magazine on the vibrant music scene was required. I have done this by focusing on an artist which grew up in Hertfordshire and loves the place they are from.
One of the main requirements of the magazine is to appeal to younger audiences. This can be shown by wanting an online and print based version of the magazine. Because the magazine was wanted online this made me believe they wanted a younger target audience because of the fact that the younger generation are always online. I think I have met this part of the client brief as I used a younger musician that my target audience of 14 - 22 years old may relate to and feel a connection to, due to their similar ages.
As well as this the brief states "Hertfordshire has a huge music offering around the region- The Herts Magazine wants people to know about it." Again this specific requirement states that they require me to inform the people of Hertfordshire about the music talent in Hertfordshire. I believe I have met this by talking about a new and up coming musician that is from Hertfordshire. A main purpose of my magazine is to talk about and help grow new artists in Hertfordshire so that they can gain popularity.
Post production techniques I used:
On the front cover of my magazine I used the ellipse tool, I used this tool to make the puff for my front cover. I used this tool to make many different shaped for my front cover, for example I made a star by using the point option on the ellipse tool, however I decided that a start wasn't suitable for my magazine so I used the ellipse tool again to make a circle instead which looked much better on my front cover.
The magic wand tool allowed me to remove the main artist from the photo on which their original background is on. The reason I removed the artist from the background is because the original background was plain and white and all I needed was the artist. the original background did not suit my colour scheme as I needed a colourful vibrant colour scheme therefore I have to remove the artist.
I used the magnetic lasso tool on the front cover and the double page spread, similarly to the magic wand tool I used it to transport the picture of the main artist onto a more appealing background than the original one. This tool helped me meet the client brief by having an appropriate pop themed background.
Another tool I used for my front cover is the text tool. I used this for many different parts of my front cover. I used it to create my masthead, cover lines, the text inside of my puff and for the price of my magazine.
Double page spread
For my double page, I used the object selection tool to edit my image. Its very similar to the magnetic lasso toll I used and it allows me to move the chosen image from the old background to the new background I created on indesign. I used this as the new background is much more appropriate than the previous one for the image. I preferred this tool over the magnetic lasso tool as I found it easier to use.
I also used the quick selection tool, this tool is very similar to the object selection tool however it lets me get rid of smaller sections that the other tools may have missed.
The final tool I used wad the text tool. I used to this create the text boxes for where the text would go and to write my headlines and pull quotes. The body was was put into the text boxes created the text tool.
Front cover
The use of my different colours on my front cover allows the reader to be drawn to different parts of the magazine, at different points of viewing. The brief states that the magazine must one based around the new large growing music scene in Hertfordshire. By using these colours not only do they appeal to my target audience(14-22years old) it also appeals to the genre of pop music.
Double page spread
Fonts
Front cover
Using the text box allowed me to add in my various different fonts which I chose for my front cover. My fonts allows me to connect my magazine to my selected genre if music, pop. My different fonts where used for my masthead, cover lines and my puff which can all grab the attention of possible consumers. The different fonts all relate to pop music in some may and represents different parts of the magazine.
By having multiple different fonts on the front cover, it makes the overall page looks more attractive and cleaner, therefore making it more likely for someone to walk past and pick ip the magazine to purchase it. As well as this it also allows the consumer to picture the magazines genre. The fonts allow the magazine to have an equal amount of bold and quiet parts of the magazine, which show the most important parts of the magazine.
Double page
Once the consumer has been drawn to the magazine by the front cover, they will find there way to the double page spread. This is where they will see the main article and will see the most appealing page of the magazine. By having different fonts, it will help the reader understand the different sections of the double page spread.
In conclusion, my final media product matches the brief accordingly, it promotes the genre of pop to the full extent. It has also been created by using a range of post- production tools, which have been stated above. These helped my magazine look professional and have been created to a high standard
